Having received the replies to the questionnaire, we then analyzed the results, which showed that, from the viewpoint of the interviewee there were aspects of her culture that impacted on her life and the reaction it had from others.

The dress code of the Sikh is that of long hair, which is said to act like a cosmic antenna, and clothing designed for modesty, although it does not demand a particular Indian style of dress, although the more radical element of the movement disallows modern western clothing, particularly for women.

Adherence to the turban rules is considered important for men at all times.

Traditionally the Sikh diet is vegetarian. Much of their food is a lot more spicy than that consumed in non-Indian cultures. In this study we have evaluated the response from a person in the UK of a Sikh background with a view to achieving an understanding intercultural communications from their perspective.

It is predicted that there will be some issues arising from this that will need to be addressed by society as a whole, such as a need for more appreciation of the religious aspect of differing cultures.

Method In our research for this document we prepared a questionnaire on the subject, which we presented to an interviewee. The questions covered aspects of her culture, its religious background and the way that it affects her life. It was also geared to provide an understanding of the disadvantages and advantages that she felt her culture had, both in life and in the way that she communicate with persons from other cultures.
